For a long time I had a certain talent for procrastination. I can’t say it was entirely from being lazy, I believe a good portion of it came from fear. I managed to kick my procrastination habits on the artistic frontier although they remain in other areas.

I’ve kinda turned into a hermit because of my art focus and while it sounds good to say I paint 7 days a week you eventually burn out. There were times I just didn’t feel like painting and I had to learn that that’s ok. You need that balance. I recently got back into playing video games after neglecting them for years. I didn’t want to play them because I knew in the past I let them consume me. I needed a little more variety in my life so I decided to step back into it carefully . . . . . and I’m happy to say now that I have a healthy addiction to making art I am able to control my impulse to play video games for hours on end.

Fear

I’ve had this subject on my mind for the past couple of weeks. There are so many things in life and chances I don’t take out of fear. I’ve given it too much power, it exists too keep you alive but you shouldn’t use it as a crutch. If you always wait until your back is against the wall to start fighting how will you move forward? I can’t help but think the reason you won’t take a chance at a new opportunity as an adult is because of that one time as a child you touched a hot stove. You have to keep that childlike fearlessness, as adults we know too much.

I saw an interview with Les Stroud (Survivorman) where he said “there are only two ways to live, in fear or in love”. That really struck a chord with me, I avoid so many things because of silly fears and the further you walk down the path of fear the more fearful you will become, the only way to stop it is turn around and walk the other way.

I’ve been doing a lot of soul searching recently and I know the only way for me to move forward in life is to defeat my fears. People have told me that I am completely fearless in my use of color and other elements in my art, my goal is to apply that same mentality to the rest of my life. The picture I attached to this post is actually about this subject but when I painted I was trying to speak to other people not realizing I am also afraid. You can view it here.

Dear God 2.0 – The Roots

I really love this song, it speaks on some of the things I battle with. It’s not secret this world has some terrible things and people in it. I went through a period where I questioned what I believed and really tried to figure out who I wanted to be. I can say I ever was atheist maybe agnostic-curious at the most. I had to figure out what I wanted to be apart of my life and what made me feel complete in a world that is constantly trying to take from you. The truth is it is hard to believe there is something greater, and I not afraid to admit it.

I think we all have to find our own path and be unafraid to ask questions. Anyway enjoy the song.

My show is here! The response was great and I can’t wait to start on new projects. I’ve actually been able to show two of the featured people their painting, which was a great feeling. Now I just gotta work on the other 3.

Growing old

I’ve always had in my head this deadline at age 30. it was always that I have to have something going for myself by then. Well tomorrow is my deadline and as with too many things in my life I squeaked in at the last minute. The age 29 was the most productive of all others ages for me, but I made that deadline dangit! i spent the majority of my time working on my craft and put on my first solo show back in June. I went through some things early in 2012 but I was able to channel that energy into my creative process. Hard times will either break you or make you. I had to sacrifice anything resembling a normal social life, but that’s not a high price. I don’t get paid to socialize.

True Love

I discovered Loaded Lux a couple of months ago. He’s possibly best known as an excellent battle rapper. He’s more than that though he also has a message which is the main thing I look for in music I support. This song especially spoke to me as a father, not just a dad, a father. Someone who wants to do the best for my son and will remain in his life no matter what.

King of Sorrow

I really love Sade. Her voice is so smooth and I don’t know she’s great. I really like this song King of Sorrow, it’s a little depressing but I kinda relate with depressing music.
